Some Hungarian motorway vignettes will become brutally expensive!
Despite the previous statements of the Hungarian Ministry of Technology and Industry vignette prices will increase more. According to the previous reports, the ministry did not plan to change the regulation regarding the price of motorway usage in the country. However, it is not bad news for everyone.
Not even two weeks have passed since the ministry made a remark on the question of whether vignette prices will increase or not. In the report, Minister of Technology and Industry László Palkovits said that they did not intend to change the regulation. According to the current regulation, vignette prices should have only increased by about 15 percent or in other words, by the inflation rate measured in August.
But the rules have been changed which is good news for those who buy annual vignettes, but it is terrible news for monthly and 10-day pass buyers and also for truck drivers.
New prices
Annual countrywide and regional vignette prices will only increase by 5 percent. This means that the price of the annual vignette will increase from HUF 47,000 (EUR 118) to HUF 49,190 (EUR 123). While the price of the annual regional vignette will increase from HUF 5,450 (EUR 14) to HUF 5,720 (EUR 14). For bus drivers, the increase will be the same, which means 5 percent.
However, prices for the monthly and 10-day passes will increase by somewhere between 44-72 percent — reports Telex.hu. A monthly pass will cost HUF 8,900 (EUR 22) and a 10-day pass will cost HUF 5,500 (EUR 14). This is also true for motorcyclists, who will have to pay HUF 2,750 (EUR 7) for ten days and HUF 4,450 (EUR 11) for a month.
Vans weighing more than 3.5 tons, cars with more than seven seats and trailers will cost significantly more too. For them, the increase will be 49 percent, so instead of paying HUF 46,850 (EUR 117) now, they will have to pay HUF 69,830 (EUR 175) annually. However, the price of the 10-day vignette will only increase by 5 percent, so it will cost HUF 8,000 (EUR 20). In the case of the monthly pass, the increase will be around 21 percent, so the new price will be HUF 12,600 (EUR 32).
October 2022
The previously mentioned prices will only be introduced in January, while for truck drivers they come into force by October. The price increase should have only happened in January next year, but it has been brought forward to October this year. Now every truck pays HUF 22-101 (EUR 0.06-0.25) per kilometre on main roads and HUF 53-162 (EUR 0.13-0.41) per kilometre on motorways.
